[Review] The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo - Millenium Part 1

The recently re-directed movie, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, is based on the Millennium trilogy which was first released just 3 years ago (February 2009). This is the first part of that trilogy. Join us after the break for an extensive review.

The first hour of the movie is pretty confusing because two stories are displayed at the same time, but are not linked to each other. One of two storylines is about the Swedish man Mikael Blomkvist who is an journalist at a magazine called Millennium. He just lost a case in court against a competing magazine. At the same time, he receives a call of a wealthy Swedish family who are the owners of the largerst Swedish family business. Mikael Blomkwist must solve the unexpected dead of the in 1966 16 year old girl in the family.

The other storyline does not seems to be highly relevant in the first part of the movie. Here, the 24 year old messed up girl Lisbeth Salander researched the facts were Mikael was condemned for. Furthermore, this hacker has a lot of social problems.

When the two storylines finally come together, the first part of the movie suddenly makes sense. Now, the interesting and more exciting half of the movie begins. Lisbeth and Mikael start to work together to solve the mysterious dead of the girl. A surprising end of the movie makes the story fascinating and curious of the next part of the trilogy.

The realistic movie is well directed and a great thrill to watch based on the fascinating storyline. Also the acting of Daniel Craig (Mikael Blomkvist) and Rooney Mara (Lisbeth Salander) are incredibly good. This makes the movie really worth watching for everyone that likes to watch a thriller with a nice storyline. Even though the first half of the movie lacks action, it keeps your attention span long enough to build up to the climax and the plot twist. Definitely a must-see!

Rating: 4.5 / 5
