[Review] 50/50

A comedy about cancer, there are definitely more easy subjects for a movie. However, Jonathan Levine decides to take on the challenge. With an excellent cast, he not only delivers the comedy part, but also excels at implementing the emotional part. Join us after the break for the full review.

The movie that in real life would be depressing is actually really funny to watch. The 27-year old health freak Adam (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is diagnosed with cancer. This very rare and special type he has, is hard to treat, as well as only having a 50% chance of surviving his disease.

Meanwhile, his girlfriend supports him really good. She drives him to the hospital, cooks dinner and do everyday things. However, when she is a night out at an art exposition, the best friend/ colleague (played by the funny actor Seth Rogen) of Adam sees her kissing with another man. He drives home to his friend and tells him about his cheating girlfriend. Adam decides immediately to set her out of his house.'

Fortunately, he has got a nice and cute psychologist which he likes very much. Also, he does a lot of fun stuff with his best friend, like smoking lots of weed and hook up with chicks. In the end, his cancer is treated well with good surgery, after that (to make give the movie a happy ending) he also starts dating with his psychologist.

The movie can be placed in the genres drama and comedy. This strange combination makes the movie really funny to watch even thought the main problem is the movie is serious. The movie doesn’t have a great depth which makes it easy to follow, however this sometimes makes it sometimes a little too easy. The movie is really suitable while drinking a beer and watching with friends.

Rating: 3,5/5
